In this video I show you how to make dupont connections easily. The key is to have the proper tools and practice a little bit. After 1-2 failed attempts you will master this technique and you will be able to make custom cables with dupont connectors. It is very useful if you are working a lot with microcontrollers or similar circuits because this is one of the most popular way to connect the different devices.
Prepare the dupont connector. If you crimp a female connector, insert a jumper pin into it, so it is easier to handle it and it is better to see the required length of the exposed wire.
Prepare the cable. Strip back roughly 2 mm insulator.
Insert the terminal into the crimping tool in the same way as you can see it on the picture. The bottom of the terminal should rest on the one of the teeth, and the flaps should point upwards. Close the crimping tool until the triangular flaps almost touch the top of the notch. This will happen after 2 or 3 click of the ratchet.
Insert the wire into the dupont connector in the same way as you see it on this picture. (The dupont connector is in the crimping tool as you see it on the previous picture). Once you are sure that the wire is inserted properly, close the grips of the crimping tool. The ratchet will release and you will be able to remove the cable.
The final result should look something like this. The triangular parts grab the insulator and the rectangular parts grab the conductor of the wire. The last step is to put the plastic cover over this part and you are done.
