ATmega32u4 microcontroller - revisited/revised!
In this video, I show my new, revised version of my custom-made ATmega32u4 microcontroller module. I took my old design from 2 years ago and made it better.
Improvements
So, there are some more and there are some less noticeable changes. I just list them in a list of bullet points below:
I replaced the micro USB connector with a USB-C connector. It is 2024 after all.
I replaced the big (and actually a bit more expensive) reset button with a smaller and cheaper one. I use a similar one that can be found on ESP32 boards.
I made the board narrower by 2.54 mm. This is also the pitch of the pin header I use.
I replaced one of the tantalum capacitors on the VUSB line with a ceramic capacitor.
I replaced the fuse with a smaller one. The new fuse still blows at 500 mA, but it has a smaller package.
I made the traces curved. It looks nicer.
I added labels to all the pins, on both sides of the board. On the bottom side, I also indicated the peripherals. Furthermore, I came up with some symbols to highlight the three commonly used peripherals on the board. The SPI pins (MISO, MOSI and SCK) have a solid line next to them, the i2c pins (SDA and SCL) have dots and the serial pins (TX and RX) have dashed lines.
I moved my signature to another part of the board and I also made the signature to be a revealed copper layer. It looks fancier.
I added my website address to the bottom of the board.
I hid an easter egg on the board.
